Whitewashing (totally new Sisters in an area)/ Soggy Elephant

May 16, 2016

Howdy one and all! It certainly has been an adventurous week.

What does it feel like to whitewash? Excellent question! You know
how sometimes in Washington we get these nasty horrendous dust storms?
That's how my brain felt for the first few days. A little lost, but we
managed to figure everything out. It's been kinda fun, actually. There
are so many cool members and we are beachside. Haven't been there yet-
but we are going Saturday! I'm so excited! It almost makes up for
biking in extreme humidity.

I also saw Sister Parrish on Tuesday! She is doing well!

So, my companions:

Sister Lefebvre (pronounced la-fave. Don't look at how it's spelled- it just makes it worse.) is adorable and from Utah. She sings, draws, rock climbs, and does just about everything and anything. She saw dolphins while riding with some members. I was too slow to see them.

Sister McIntosh (like the computer) is a fabulous human as well.
Very quick and witty, and an amazing piano player.

I'm still me :D

This area is pretty interesting and pretty- kinda... dead. It has posed
a interesting challenge. Two of our investigators came to church
Sunday, Dan and Jarrett. Dan is a retired 9/11 paramedic and Jarrett
is YSA. They are pretty fabulous.

We also saw a Fox while leaving a message to the District Leaders...
Sister L was leaving the message when we saw the fox. (We were trying
to find another mattress because mine is demolished.) She shouts at
the top of her lungs "oh my gosh it's a fox!" And the voicemail we
left the elders was really funny.... They were really confused when
they called us back.

We met a really cool member named Brother Landsdown and he makes just about everything. He's a wood worker. He likes to play with acrylics and make really cool things with them, and he makes rings and stuff, too. He let each of us sisters pick something out we wanted. I picked a pen. It's really cool and fancy looking. It's going to be red. I can't wait to show y'all when I get it on Sunday.

Something really interesting happened with a member Sunday at a stake Relief Society meeting.  She asked us what we were planning to do with the future and said, "Please don't tell me your life goal is to get married and to have as many children as you can." I was shocked. I love my mother and grandmothers to pieces. I think it would be a great thing to be a mom. Don't ever forget the importance of motherhood or fatherhood. Just because the world's views have changed doesn't mean God's views have changed. This is what God has planned and his roles
for men and women are not going to change.

Another thing my companions and I have been working on is a Family Mission Plan. We have prayed about it and we know that is has been inspired by our loving Heavenly Father. The spirit that comes when we teach about this family mission plan is so powerful and strong. I know that this works- as long as we have faith. Try it. Will you do
that? I know I have seen wonderful things happen and I have seen hope be restored because of it! Do it.

I love you all! Thank you so much! I can't wait to hear from you!

 Hi family and friends!
It would appear that it is Monday again! How did that happen? These

weeks are just flying by! I could have sworn it's the start of a
school year! Time certainly speeds by when doing missionary work. I
didn't realize that a year could go by this fast! Yikes! That scares
me a little bit.  This week was awesome! The members of our ward are
awesome! We have been taking the time to meet each of them and we've
met some pretty fun people-like the Curries, Cluffs, Lansdowns, and
many more. Bishop Markos is pretty cool as well.

We spent the past two days beachside finding, and it was fruitful. We found several potentials and two new investigators. So, this one guynamed John answered the door (we knocked ecause we were looking for a potential)- and he was not wearing a shirt, eyes slightly bloodshot, and I'm not so sure how coherent he was. We later guessed he had a pretty nasty hangover, but he surprisingly said we could come back the next day.  So, we went back the next day and he was not home. But we met Shana! She flat out said she was interested before we left! Whoo!

I am very grateful for Sister McIntosh's piano skills. She's doing a musical piece for Zone Conference and it's really pretty. She just plays, and plays, and plays, and I just sit there content to listen until my ears fall off. It's really quite wonderful. I have always loved music but I think my love for it has strengthened while here in Florida. My recent favorite hymns are: "I Need Thee Every Hour", "Come Thou Fount", "Savior, Reedemer of My Soul", "I Know My Redeemer Lives", and "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" (notes are still too high for me on that one).

One of my birthday packages showed up about a week and a half early, so I had my companions hide it so I wouldn't be tempted to open it.... I found it under the couch three days later while playing dead on the floor during lunch. Good thing I know how to ignore temptations.

Sister L and Sister McIntosh love to play slug bug and Bingo (you punch the person closest to you every time you see a yellow car) and I have collected several bruises on my leg. It's all been really fun. These sisters are great. Whoo! Trio power!

We, also, got dumped on by the rain clouds. We walked outside and we saw this big mushroom-top of a cloud- and it just started dumping. We didn't get a tornado warning so that's good!

Dan is doing -alright. He flat out told us that he doesn't want to keep one of the major commandments. He's still reading the Book of Mormon and stuff, but he's kinda flat-lined on his progression. I really hope we won't have to drop him.
Jarret is great! He just got back from New York and he is progressing! Yay! He's so much fun to teach. He told each of us what our spirit animals were. He's a polar bear, Sister McIntosh is a wolf, Sister L is a tiger, ...and I am an elephant. That gave my companions the giggles. He later explained it's because elephants are smart, graceful
creatures- and the our member T.I joking, said, "yeah and they have long noses!" He hadn't been paying attention to the conversation. It was really funny!

Have a wonderful week!

Sister Jarvis
