Exchanges
A TON has happened since I last emailed.... I hope I can cram it all in....
After Monday, I was selected to be sent of to New Symerna Beach for Exchanges for 24 hours. I met some of the most interesting Women. One of whom was inactive (I'll call her Krys) and in Deltona (which is wear I serve. Not Deland... Deland is the name of the Zone... It's all rather confusing.) and we are currently working on setting up a meeting with her. I also met another lady (this one cracks me up). She opens the door and was really suspicious of us. Wanted to know who we were, what we were doing, and how we got her sister in law's address. After realizing we were missionaries, she puffs up and states indignantly, "I'm Rosa and I'm Roman Catholic." I had to try and not laugh.
Sister C and I also had the chance to meet another less-active family and the father invited us back, fed us dinner, and let us teach them. We have another lesson with them later this week and we challenged them to read the Book of Mormon together as a family and to have questions for us when we get back. So basically, they took it as a "try and stump the sisters" challenge. We will have to see how that goes. On Friday! Oh man.... we went to the temple. The Orlando temple is soooo pretty! I still think the Temple by Erin's house is the most gorgeous one I've seen but this one is pretty much in the top 3. But, we had a trainers follow up meeting after that and so we were basically in meetings all day and that was tiring. Then we drove back and had to go to this ward activity called Feast Before the Fast (Polynesian themed)-, and Krys CAME! Oh man. she brought her parents too- who are members. Her parents are from Puerto Rico and they were so cool to talk to.
The funniest thing happened on Sunday, though. There was the cutest little boy who was about 3 almost 4 and he was talking to me. Suddenly he demanded, "You should give me a kiss."
I was busting up laughing as his mom had to explain that you don't kiss the sister missionaries. It was a really funny and sweet moment. Apparently he has been going through a phase.
Today was soo much fun as well. We had district Pday and we ate all you can eat pancakes. I ate about 6 big fluffy pancakes. I guess you can say my appetite I had in middle school/high school is starting to come back.... People on the mission also have a talent for honing in on awkward questions people like me want to avoid. Did you go to school before you came? How was it? What do you mean it was a learning curve? Did you leave anyone special behind? What do you mean Washington has a dry half? OH! So you're from the Seattle area? (They always assume that.... it's kinda weird) DO you like Twilight? The list goes on forever and I have already have had literary arguments over Twilight...
So, I've been on my mission for a month... 2 days ago. I'm still kinda in shock I'm out here. I didn't think I could do it. But I am here and I have met so many amazing people. Furthermore, my testimony that God has his hand in every thing. Even if you don't see the reasoning behind it. There is no such thing as coincidences. Everything has a purpose. Even if you don't see it. He doesn't forget anyone. Not a single soul.
All my love,
Sister J
